This year has flown by! I thought I’d take the time to do a little highlight reel of my favorite parts of the year! I have a ton of things to be thankful for – an amazing man by my side, the sweetest baby boy, and an exciting future ahead of us, to name a few! Here are just a few of the zillions of things that happened in 2018 that made this my favorite year so far!
Duh, obviously. This will probably always be my favorite thing to ever happen to me. Definitely the best part of the year was Basil’s birthday! I miss being pregnant (don’t come at me) but I love having him here with me everyday so much more!
So, I was one of those people that was sooooo looking forward to finally being 21… well, joke’s on me because I was 7 months pregnant. We went to the store and I bought a bottle of something for Michael though and I felt super weird not only because it was my first time buying alcohol, but I was also super pregnant…. and they didn’t even ID me!! Either way, it’s nice to be able to buy myself a bottle of wine when I want it, and not have to be sketchy and sneaky when I drink now hehehe.
First anniversary with Michael
Now we’ve been together for nearly two years, but right before my birthday we celebrated one year together! We got all dressed up and went to a super fancy restaurant, and it was so nice! I can’t wait to celebrate many, many more anniversaries with the best man and father to our son I could ever ask for!!
I know being a stay at home mom gets a lot of judgement and it’s not for everyone, but I love it! There’s nothing I’d rather do than be able to be the one that teaches Basil everyday and never missing any milestones. It’s tough sometimes, and money has been tight, but I know I’m lucky that I’m able to do this, and I’m so thankful that I can!
Okay, honestly, she’s kind of a pain sometimes, but that comes with being a puppy and I know that. She’s part of the family and I can’t imagine life without her little crazy self! She’s learning to be more gentle with Basil, which is so sweet to watch because they’re both so interested in each other, but he’s so pinchy and she’s so mouthy it’s a little scary sometimes. I’m excited to watch their bond grow as they both get older and more gentle with each other – I think they’re gonna be best buds!
One-on-one time with Michael
We don’t get much time to ourselves now that we have Basil, but when we do, I definitely appreciate it more now. This isn’t really a one time thing to add to my highlights of the year like the rest have been, but it’s a rare enough occurrence I think it counts… plus, is there ever a wrong time to appreciate your time with your favorite human? Didn’t think so.
Going home for Christmas
I so needed this. The older I get the more I’m realizing how much I need my family. It was so great to spend time with my brothers, my sister, and my parents, and it was so much fun watching everyone interact with Basil! My youngest brother Finn, hasn’t ever really had the chance to be around babies because he is the baby in our family, so I especially thought it was cute seeing him playing with Basil. I’m soooo glad Michael was able to get the time off from work so we could go this year. I already can’t wait til the next time we get to see them, and we just got home, like, I’m not even done unpacking yet.
This has been such a crazy year. It’s been hard at times, emotional (hello postpartum!!), and completely different than anything I’ve ever experienced, and I’m so excited for the future! There are some things I wish I would’ve been more in the moment for throughout the year, but I’m glad I at least have the memories, and probably lots of pictures too knowing me. I can’t wait for 2019 – I know Michael and I have some big plans, and I’m so excited to see how it all plays out!
Thanks for reading and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I’d love to know what your favorite things from 2018 were!
