Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke Book Review & Favorite Quotes

Heeeeey guys!

So I’ve made it a goal for myself to make more time to read this year (and hopefully forever). I’ve loved reading for so long, but the last few years it’s been hard to find the time to get cozied up with a book, so that’s what I plan on spending more time doing.

Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke book

(I found this book through one of my favorite bloggers Hunida – you can find her posts about this book here and here.)

Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke was the perfect book to start the year off with – it had me laughing, rooting for characters, disliking others, and altogether glued to the pages and craving more each time I had to put the book down! The journal entry writing style of this book is both super easy to read, and very entertaining.

This book is set in Canada where expelled high school senior Jane Sinner goes to community college to get her diploma, and ends up lying about a number of things to get on a local reality show in order to create a new identity for herself (other than what people know about her from “The Event”), and to win a used car. Her very religious parents aren’t fans of her decisions and the fact that she isn’t religious anymore, but they ultimately set aside those differences in support of Jane growing up and making her own choices.

This book has some pretty great quotes too – here are a few of my favorites.

Prayer circles are the worst. Somehow everyone assumes their prayers are only effective if their hands are touching some part of your body.

The next time anyone tells you that, do yourself a favor and drop-kick them in the tampon tunnel.

The past doesn’t exist. It’s just a story we tell ourselves. And stories change each time you tell them.

Freedom is when you don’t take anything personally.

Jane: I think I can save us some time here. I’ll tell you my only motivation in life.

Therapist: And what motivation is that?

Jane: The lols. It’s the only reason I ever do anything.

Without giving too much of this story away, I will say that there are a few plot twists throughout the book that had my jaw dropping and I loved every minute of it! I haven’t read a book that actually had me laughing out loud in quite a while, so this was a lot of fun for me! Jane is such a relatable character, and I think the way this book was written is perfect for her character.

Who’d have thought that a reality show as a book would’ve been a good idea? Props to Lianne Oelke because it was a fantastic idea!

I’d rate this book 4/5 stars. It’s not my favorite book ever, but it’s definitely a great read, and I highly encourage anyone reading this to pick up a copy too!

Thanks for reading!!
